Unit 7 Blog

With the Aesclepius practice, I realized how hard it would be for me to put myself in someone else's shoes who was so wise, kind, peaceful, compassionate, and joyful. The one man who came to mind that I found to be so loving, wise, respectful and honorable was Jesus Christ. This is the one man who I will never be able to be like but I can sure try and possess some of the amazing qualities that He had. With this meditative practice, I tried to think the way His mind, speech and heart worked and tried to transform myself into the amazing person He was.

I think mindfulness and meditation have helped me because it has taught me how to let go of the negative aspects in my life and try to learn how to be a better person. Some of these practices are hard for me because some of them made me really think about things that weren't making me so happy and to try and push those out of my life and some of those were hard for me. I want to be the best person I can be and be the most positive person I can be for my family and for myself.

I can apply these different things that I have learned by pushing negative situations and people out of my life and welcoming in all of the positives aspects of life. I need to learn to let go of my past and make way for an amazing future. And I need to learn to be a better person and think about those who are less fortunate and learn to put myself in other's lives.

I think the saying "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself," means that we cannot completely help someone down a path of being successful without having taken that path before. We cannot tell someone how a situation will be or how hard it easy it was to get ther without having done it before. We need to first be a student before we can be a teacher. We have to take the situation and learn the mistakes and good experiences we can have before we can show others how to get through the same situation.\

I think this applies to the health and wellness profession because in order for a professional to help out their patients, they need to know their information in order to be able to provide the patient with the right information. I think that experience makes the situation even better because the patient can realize that someone has made it through what they are going through and that will give them hope to make it through the situation themselves.

I think that I would have an obligation to my clients because I know that I am not fully prepared to teach someone how to be completely positive and let go of all the bad because I have not reached that point yet in my life. My glass is still half empty in that category so I have to work on it myself before I can teach someone else to be whole.

I can implement spiritual and psychological growth in my life by clearing my mind and making room for everything positive. I am becoming more in touch with God and it makes me feel complete. I always feel as if something is missing and now that I am becoming more and more in touch with Christ, I am feeling happier and whole again. I think learning how to let things go will help me with my stress and psychological areas as well.

  1. Hello-

    You picked an amazing person to gain insite from. Pushing the negative out to let the positive rise is a hard thing to do. There seems like there is so much negative. Letting the negative go as you did will help so many people to open up and really shine. I wish you luck with your spiritual growth.

    1. Thank you for your response Brandie and yes that can be so hard to do sometimes, but when we realize how much relief we feel when we do it, it makes it all worth it. I think when we relieve ourselves of our negative thoughts and feelings we have a welcoming sense and we can help not only ourselves but others as well. Thank you for the wishes and I hope you progress in your spritual growth as well!

  2. Hello Taya,
    To focus on just one person and their characteristics is tough, but if you can put all your concentration into it then you will start to feel what their influences can do to help you in yours and ours lives. I think it is great that you are working on pushing out the negative in your life. It is difficult, but acheivable. The greatest thing is, if you are showing a change like that and the people, your children, spouse, etc... see this, than they will start to learn from you.
    It is funny, when I am at work and get quiet people ask me if there is something wrong. I am really just concentrating, but they are so used to seing the other person who changes their attitudes that when I am not being jovial, they feel the change too. Reflection. Thanks for sharing, it really means a lot. : }

    1. Thank you for your response Erika. And it is so difficult sometimes because we just want to keep on being mad and hold on to what is making our lives miserable, but in reality, we are only hurting ourselves. I agree that when others see that we are opening our hearts to positivity and pushing out the negative people and situations in our lives, they are wanting to do the same thing so we are setting an example for them. I can totally relate to your situation because I am usually a chatter box and when my husband will come home and I don't have a mouth full to say, he thinks something is wrong lol. But since my daughter has come along, and she is 3 now, I don't have much room to talk because she does it all for me. I do my best to set the best example for her and my husband and I think kicking the negative out of my life is the best way to start! Good luck to you in your spiritual growth! =)

  3. Taya,
    What a great person to choose. Christ is the most amazing teacher we have had and still have. As a Christian we are taught to model Christ and this exercise must have been incredible. I used my Grandfather and felt inadequate and can’t imagine comparing myself to the compassion, love, understanding, joy… of Christ, great job.
    Taya, you make another great point with the saying “one cannot lead where one has never been.” However I want you to think about this, I coach track and I can lead and teach kids to accomplish much greater tasks than I was able to at their age. I think that some of us are gifted with the ability to lead and some with the ability to achieve and some are both.

  4. Thank you for your response. I know that I could never give or be like Christ was but He is someone who I can always look to and ask myself "What would He do in this situation?" I think at times that if I would live my life based on the decisions He would make and the love He showed people than I would be much better off. You know you make a great point as well. Because there are some people who are amazing leaders and might have never experienced what they are teaching, but who can make the listener feel as if they have done what they are teaching. I do think there are some gifted people who are able to do this and I think that's great that you are one of them. I think there are some situations where it's easier if you know what the person is going through but in some situations I don't think you have to be. Thank you again for your kind words and response. Good luck in your path of following and teaching children!
